Foster's Elevator at
Albright, Alberta
Moved to Museum site The elevator was built in 1928 and was originally owned by Alberta Pacific Grain Ltd. until the 1960's, when it was purchased by Foster's Seed and Feed Ltd. It was then converted to a grain cleaning facility. The elevator is 23 meters tall, 10 meters square at the base and weighs approximately 100 tonnes. It has a capacity of 28,000 bushels. The South Peace Centennial Museum Elevator Acquisition Steering Committee spent over three years in planning, raising funds, schedueling and discussions. On July 2003, work was started at the elevator site to prepare the elevator complex for the contractors to move the buildings to the museum site. On November 2003 work was started on site preparation at the museum site for the elevator and the warehouses. The pilings and pads were completed by November 25th. On January 2, 2004 the moving contractors arrived on site and by January 10th the elevator, office, and warehouse were at the museum site. Foster's Elevator at Albright, Alberta was moved down Highway 43 on January 8, 2004 to be preserved at the South Peace Centennial Museum. The elevator is presently in the process of being restored. |
